'Why now?' is always a good question and I suppose, when I think of an immediate answer it is 'Why not?'. Continual Professional Development (CPD) has been growing in our industry steadily during the last decade and, if you are going to stay in this industry, you are going to want to justify premium prices because we can see there will be plenty of demand as we come out of lockdown, with learner drivers needing lessons. What a lot of driving instructors have discovered over this last 12 months, is they really didn't have a contingency in place for those added extras in life, which we should all be able to take for granted as part of our working package. Those added extras, like sick pay, health cover, pension, holiday fund, savings, profit, and I can imagine there might be more benefits that you could add to that list, that you don't currently receive. How can you start to justify what for many will be significant price increases, to fund what should really be your basic rights? One way we at Tri-Coaching have found is by investing in your CPD, which not only gives you an edge by improving your services and giving you more unique selling points, it also widens your potential income streams. People who have taken CPD with us have gone on to become coaches and trainers in their own rights, delivering driving instructor training, presenting courses such as the BTEC 4 and even developing their own courses to deliver. CPD has been part of their journey and has helped them broaden their horizons and increase their enjoyment of their working lives. You can ask some of the people who have taken that path before you - all respected trainers in their own right and you will find that all have been through the process of Continual Professional Development. Just ask Ray Seagrave, Sally Kaur or Kev Field what they have achieved for themselves due to taking an active part in their own CPD. You can read some reviews of the courses they have taken with Tri-Coaching Partnership. Sally Kaur said 'Tri-Coaching Partnership deliver excellent training courses with continued support for development throughout and beyond any of the courses they deliver. I would very highly recommend them for any Continued Personal Development either as an ADI or PDI'. Ray Seagrave said about our Tri-Coaching Driving Instructor Training product that he uses after attending the Train the Trainer course, 'TCIT is an excellent, ground-breaking training course aligned with the DVSA's National Driver Standards. The online resources and videos are like having an extra virtual trainer helping every step of the way to passing all 3 instructor tests'.
Kev Field, after attending the BTEC Level 4 Professional Award in Coaching for Driver Development - and then re-attending, said 'still learning and developing by revisiting this great course.I have just spent the last 2 days revisiting my BTEC level 4 course. Some people might say why, as I have already completed it, but part of my learning is to reflect back on what I do when I give my training and I felt I needed to start where my coaching journey began.Do I really know this coaching or client centred way of teaching? I feel it's necessary to make sure I know the answersI don't think I have had any light bulb moments but more that the dimmer switch has been turned up and the lights are now brighter. I had tried to look at my previous notes and assignments, but for me there is no better type of learning than being in a class, listening to Sue, Graham and the other attendees. What did I get out of attending these last 2 days? Confirmation that the journey I have taken, and still on, is going to be ongoing. I need to keep learning and that learning is never going to stop. Communication module 1 and feedback module 2, I do on a daily basis but hearing people phrase questions differently gave me a different insight into how other people think, feel or behave rather than just using my clients to practice on. I could relax and actually listen and watch other people in a non moving environment which gave me the opportunity for learning/reflecting to take place. The course has changed or should I say evolved rather than changed, more demonstrations from Sue and Graham, which I felt made it easier to reinforce what had just been discussed. The assignments seemed to be easier now or is that I have already completed them and I don't need to do them again? Or should I?I would recommend this course not just for ADIs looking at a coaching course but for anyone who has completed the course sometime ago and now looking for that reinforcement in what you do everyday. If you're planning on delivering the accelerate course this would also help you enormously. As people say, everyday is a learning day and you might just have that lightbulb moment again'.
