We have faced many changes to our industry from simple things like the way cars work to those little extras, such as sat navs, ABS and all manner of gizmos and gadgets that allegedly aid our driving but are often distractions as well in their own right. We know that crashes happen through distracted driving and I have a link for you at the end of this email that you might want to let your clients have a look at about distracted driving.
So what about us? As ADIs are we in danger of being distracted from what driving is really all about and left with no choice but to simply get people to pass a test? The old slogan 'safe driving for life' has been bandied about for many years but how easy is it to encourage your clients to become safe, responsible, thinking drivers, who are in control of their emotions and know how to deal with the distractions that they will face post-test in that new world that they enter on their own? This is where coaching plays such an important part in what we do and why it is highlighted in The DVSA National Driver and Rider Training Standard in Unit 3: "In this context this unit is not about teaching learners to perform driving or riding tasks in particular ways. While it is reasonable to encourage learners to practise particular methods for performing a given task, because there are clearly explainable benefits to that method, the outcome of the learning process should be that the learner has developed a safe and responsible method which they can apply consistently and reliably; not that they have learnt any one specified method." The unit goes onto state that our role is to: "Create a climate that promotes learning (Element 6.3.1); Explain and demonstrate skills and techniques (Element 6.3.2); and Coach (Element 6.3.3)." What if you could go on a course that allows you to explore your own understanding of coaching and CCL so that you can develop skills that match today’s Standards? I know many of you will already have adopted a CCL approach so having the choice to gain a qualification as well as attend a great course is a double win-win. Enrol now on a course we have chosen to name ‘aCCeLerate’ because that is what it will do for you - aCCeLerate your skills. You should find one local to you. These are some of the testimonials from satisfied customers that have taken this course before you. Andrew Hitchings ADI "I've had a great couple of days! Anyone thinking of doing the aCCeLerate course just do it! You won't regret it! You'll wonder why you didn't do it earlier!" "I really enjoyed the course, lots to think about. I started to use coaching techniques after Day 1 and enjoyed how my pupils responded. Looking forward to using coaching to more of a degree now I've done day 2. The course was delivered in a constructive and fun manner, in a very comfortable atmosphere. Terry was very approachable and supportive and made it very clear his support was ongoing. Thank you!" Cheryl Wellard ADI "I've just taken my Standards Check and achieved an 'A'. Just wanted to say thank you very much for the excellent 2 day aCCeLerate course I did with you. Learning about coaching techniques and getting my students to take responsibility helped me a lot. I am enjoying putting into practice what I've learned so far and looking forward to developing more. Once again, thank you very much indeed."
